The night has grown cold, and I have finally realized I can't escape. They've been playing with me, just like a cat batting around a mouse it's just caught before eating it. I'm going to write everything down in hopes someone finds it and warns others to stay away from these woods at night. I won't stop writing until I'm dead; though I doubt my sanity can stay intact until then. The sounds they make come from everywhere at once, sometimes in unison, sometimes scattered.

Actually, writing seems to have steeled my nerves, so I think I'll start at the beginning; perhaps you have heard of this creature. I'll describe it as best I can, though I fear humans lack the spatial awareness to understand it. It stands 5 feet tall, it's left hand just as normal as yours or mine. It's right hand, however, isn't a hand at all-it's a scorpion's claw. It has no eyes or nose, just flesh. It can bring its bottom jaw down to its waist, revealing long, jagged teeth. I could swear I saw flesh hanging off of most of them. On top of its head is a mat of scraggled hair. There's also what seems to be a fourth dimension to it. From any distance it can reach you, even though its left arm is stubby and the claw can't reach farther then a couple of feet. When I first saw it it reached at me from what I guess to be around 10 feet. It's arm didn't stretch; even though I was so far away the arm reached just fine.

It seems to fear fire, for when it grabbed me I was able to grab a torch I had sticking out of a tree right next to me, which caused it to emit one of the most horrifying sounds I have ever heard, drop me, and flee into the dark forest. All my tinder is used up, and the ground is wet from a heavy rain. When the fire goes out, I'll surely die.

I have named this creature the Oroni, named after a creature I was told about in a dream. Even as I write this there's a large group completely surrounding me, stepping out of the brush to make strange sounds. I think they're laughing; those bastards are laughing at me! They've been terrorizing me, and have managed to either douse or otherswise destroy my torches, and now THEY'RE LAUGHING AT ME! I have nothing left to keep the fire going.

The fire! I've already thrown in all my flammable gear to keep it going, but it's already started to flicker. The ring of these things are getting closer, I can tell by the sound...

I won't let those bastards get me-kill them all.

They're coming-chanting-won't let them kill me.

Closer now-I can see them-hundreds!

God help me!

Author's Comments

On a camping trip, I found a diary half-buried in dirt. There was no sign of struggle or even of a fire, but for some reason it still frightens me. What if it's true?

*Author's notes* This was not pre-meditated. This was all written impromptu. My writing isn't the best, so give any critique you have.

Very nicely written, I like the concept behind this. My first point of critique would be to proof-read however; theres some grammatical errors. Besides that, maybe rewording a few things to get your point across more concisely - other than that its a very enjoyable read. Definite fav for me :)

Thanks for the input! And especially coming from someone who can actually write really well like you.

I don't suffer from insanity, I quite enjoy it.
